Let’s talk about GOALS!
How do we reach where we want to go? I think the first step after making a clear decision to make an effort is to develop a SMART plan for achieving your goal.
This is something I work with all the time for my private clients. It is NOT enough to make a vague statement like: “I want to be in better shape”...that’s a wish, not a plan.
When using the SMART plan for achieving your goal you need to do the following: be SPECIFIC > what exactly is your aim? Make it MEASURABLE > how will you quantify your levels of success? Is it ACHIEVABLE and REALISTIC? If you can’t do 1 pushup, saying you will do 1,000 tomorrow is neither achievable nor realistic. And finally: With in what TIME will you achieve your goal, and how much time will you dedicate to find success?
Here’s a better version of the above goal: “I will exercise for 30 minutes everyday for 1 month. I will do a mix of cardio and weightlifting on alternating days.” That’s how to set a goal for yourself!
