Hi there! Thank you for joining me today, let’s get started on springing into action by looking at the clutter in our lives and getting rid of it! I am Norma Reid, I’ve been a certified executive coach since 2004 and more recently have been coaching retirees and others on how to live a happier healthier worthier wealthier life!
I would really love to have more energy .
Hi Melissa and Kathy! Thank you for joining me! Yes, let’s take a look at what’s weighing you down, the energy drainers, so that we can get rid of them or reduce them and increase your energy! Sound good?
Yes sounds good
What I would love you to do is grab a pen and paper because we’re going to do an exercise.
Do you each have something to write with?
There are also old feelings and excessive thoughts that Weigh us down. So, we’re going to take a look at the emotional clutter the mental clutter and the physical clutter, and what to do with it!
OK, I would like you to do an exercise right now. Defined the paper in half lengthwise in the middle of the page label one side energizers and the other side energy zapper’s.
ENERGIZERS and ENERGY ZAPPERS
So let’s start out with thinking about environmental things, such as your home your closets your garage your paperwork your yardwork your office etc. think of each area and what it is that energizes you or drains you. So for instance, that could be a closet that needs cleaned out
Saw the things that energize you about your home environment would go under energizers, and the things that drain you go under energy zappers
I am ready to write
I’ll give you a few minutes after I’ve given you the instructions to complete this, unless you’d like me to wait right now before carrying on?
What clutter do you want gone or reorganized?
Then when you’re done with that, go onto your finances. Or your bills and controlled or you contributing to savings etc.…
Then when you’re done that go on to relationships – do you have unfinished business with somebody, a conversation that needs to be said? How are your relationships with your spouse, parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, boss, best friends?
Once again, take a look at the things that energize you and write them down, as well as the drainers
Then when you’re complete with that, go onto your health – how are you doing with your diet, exercise, water? Are you drinking too much? What about your health energizes you, and what drains you?
Then when you’re finished with that, move onto fun and recreation. What do you do for fun that energizes you? What do you do for recreation that drains you
Next, take a look at career or retirement or both, which ever applies to you! What about it energizes you? What drained you? Do you feel your life has meaning? And purpose?
Next, add whatever else energizes you or drains you! I’ll give you five minutes to work on the list!
How are you doing on your list? Finished?
You Can always add more to it later.
Take a look at each list. How do you feel when you look at all the drainers
How do you feel when you look at all the energizers
Of course there is emotional clutter as well and mental clutter. Our excessive thoughts, resentments and other feelings. I’m hoping they showed up on the list but if not you might want to add them later.
Go through the List. If there are somethings you can aluminate right now, then go for it! Work on eliminating one thing from the drainer list each day.
And of course, you want to increase the energizers. Do more of what energizes you, and less of what drains you!
So a great thing to do is choose the thing that weighs on your mind the most
Then, what do you do with it is either do it, delegate it, or dump it!
You don’t need to do this on your own, you can always ask for help!
Support is a very good thing!😊
Sometimes I feel my life has meaning and purpose other times I don't.
I totally relate to that Kathy! I recall reading about mother Theresa, and how she even questioned her faith at times!
We decide what meaning and purpose we give our lives, nobody else! We are human beings, and I believe part of the human experience is that questioning!
Would you like to share what you believe your purpose is?
I will share mine, I believe my purpose is to be the best me I can be, and then allows others to shine more brilliantly!
Sometimes I feel totally on track, and other times I question it! That’s part of the mental clutter! So, I need to remind myself that I create my meaning and purpose, and that is what it is!😊
I believe that mental clutter is possibly the most challenging! I think the thing to remember, is just like house work or yardwork, it looks great when we clean it up and we feel so good!
Then the clutter builds up again and weeds grow. We get way down by it, we clean it up and lighten up once again!
It’s the same thing with the thoughts we tell her selves, such as we’re not enough, or we’re not doing enough, or a question our purpose etc.!
Does that help?
We just need to remember to let go of the drainers and do more of the energizers! So maybe it’s just asking yourself in the moment what is my purpose today? What will give my life meaning today?
And maybe journalling about it.
I believe energy comes a lot from a sense of purpose, knowing what we are here for. One thing you could do, is think of who you really admire. Maybe a relative, author, celebrity. What do you think their purpose is? Is it something you would want to try on for a while?
I believe we develop our purpose through our experiences.
Any questions, comments?
If you would like to discuss further, you are welcome to do a one on one session with me! Humana members are eligible for three free coaching sessions!
And I think that’s it for today! I encourage you to take a look at that list of your drainers, and do one thing a day! It doesn’t have to be big, could be as simple as cleaning out a messy junk drawer! But if you do it each day, you’ll be surprised at how much energy you get from it!
Thanks for joining me, and I look forward to seeing you next week!
Cheers to a happy, healthy, worthy, wealthy life for all! And lots of vibrant energy!!!
