That’s what I’d like to chat about tonight. Choices. Especially our choices about how and where we direct our thought patterns.

As a personal development coach I am always doing my best to stay up to date with new theories and science about how our brains work. How we make decisions and how we get caught into thought patterns and habits.

And here’s something I find extra interesting (and frustrating!)...even though it is literally my job to understand how we as humans make choices and use patterns I sometimes don’t do such a great job for myself in this regard. I sometimes fall into the same old patterns that aren’t helpful and that hold me back from living my best life.

Aha! So then what helps you change?

But then I use my good mental health muscles to shake me back into a more useful head space. Meditation, careful consideration of my thought patterns, and rest help me get back on track. Talking with my own mentors always helps me too.

I also think about this funny Jerry Seinfeld bit he did where he basically just yells “Snap out of it!!!!”....I know that may not always be the most useful approach, but it does make me laugh at myself when I’ve become too engrossed in stinkin’ thinkin’

Oh yes! Hahaha! I listened to a gal once that said, “Say out loud if you need to: STOP!” Sounds about the same thing!

So back to the start of tonight’s session: Remember...we have the right and the ability to make the CHOICE to reach towards better mental health practices. Is it always easy? No. Is it always what we REALLY want to do? Nope. But can we take small steps towards better habits and practices? You betcha! YES YES YES we can!

Sometimes we have to remember to remember. We have to remember that we have agency, and are WORTH THE EFFORT to reach for better mental health habits.

Exactly! Oh how I love this reminder! It’s so easy to get caught up in our BS we tell ourselves! And sometimes choices are hard like when we leave a place we wanted to be. But circumstances came to a knowing that leaving would be best. Same with our unwanted thoughts!
