Hello friends! Let’s chat! I’m here to help.
How are you holding up? How do you keep yourself motivated? I love chatting about habits, and goals, and calming down our overthinking brains.
I think it is important to take a look at our media diets, especially when we feel overwhelmed. Are we taking in too much media that is bringing us down? What TV shows or movies are we watching? If you are already feeling anxious or blue, be sure to stay away from media that will enhance those visceral responses.
I used to love reading Stephen King when I was a teenager. But being a person who experiences anxiety and depression I had to cut that out of my media diet. I would just get too engrossed in the macabre stories and it would add to my discomfort.
I understand that everyone is different...you may feel less stressed watching or reading highly charged stories...but for a lot of people it just adds to the anxiety and worry.
I’m not saying that you need to cut out every scary movie or tv show, what have you...but please do be mindful of the connection between what you bring into your life and how you are feeling.
I had a private client last year that came to me with feeling of being in constant motion and an inability to feel settled. Then she told me about all the crime podcasts and tv shows she took in on a weekly basis. We set up a plan for her to substitute these for more helpful media. It was one tool that got her onto a better cycle in terms of her anxiety levels.
So tell me, what is 1 thing you think would be helpful for you switch out...I wanna know!
Be well and mind your media :) See you next week (or sooner!) Filomena :)
