Hello guys! Let’s start this week with a check in: how is everyone doing? Have you had a good week? What have been your difficult times, good times?

Hi @michael-eldridge-1 my weekend has been ok. Work has been busy but bearable. I need to recruit a new member of staff soon. We’re all still working from home so that’s going to be interesting, conducting interviews and induction online rather than in the office.

I’ve been doing that with my teams. Remarkable how we can switch to remote simply.

Do you enjoy hiring? I always get a kick out of brining people on.

I actually get very anxious. Worried I’m going to bring someone in who isn’t as good as they seem during the hiring process.

That’s always a stress. What do you look for and how do you try and get a sense during the process?

Someone who I think will fit in with the other team members is almost as important as their technical skills.

That’s the key to me as well. A lot can be trained. It’s hard to quantify though. I try and do interviews as dialogues to get a sense, how about you?

Yes that definitely helps. Getting the candidates to feel as relaxed as possible too, so they open up more and show who they really are.

I always create a list of qualities that are important/crucial before I start the process, what are your candidate “must haves”?

There are some technical must haves, but also honesty, and easy to talk to.

I’m big on that too. Ease got more important to me over time when I realized it helped productivity.

It’s nice to have minimal friction. And it bumps the team morale up.
